Wilmington Journal, Wednesday, 29 July 1896, Page 5:

"Death, long expected by his family and friends, came on Sunday to Daniel C. Moon, who for the past year or more had been gradually failing and approaching the end with pulmonary trouble. Born near Westboro June 26, 1844, he had been a resident of Wilmington since February, 1871, where he was engaged in a flour and feed store, but of late years, until his health failed, was a huckster, and as he drove all over the county buying poultry he had a very large acquaintanceship. Deceased was a good soldier during the rebellion, serving for four years in the Forty-seventh regiment, and since the war was a most enthusiastic G. A. R. man, taking a great interest and holding many offices in Morris McMillan Post. Mr. Moon was married in 1864 to Elizabeth Holaday, and she, with their four children, Mrs. Cora Earley, Burt, Otto and L. D. survive. There are also a number of relations in Jefferson Township. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon, Morris McMillan Post being in charge."
