James Moore's family was part of the many hundreds of Scots Presbyterians who settled in the northern counties of Ireland, becoming known as the Scots Irish. Likewise, hundreds if not thousands left Ireland in the early part of the 18th century, to settle in North America.
James married Jane Walker, herself the daughter of Scots Irish immigrants, in Chester County, Pennsylvania, in April 1734. About 1736, James, along with his father-in-law and some others, scouted out new lands to settle in the Valley of Virginia. In 1743 he was granted 327 in the Borden Tract.
This property was located on Walker's Creek east of Jump Mountain, in today's Rockbridge County, Virginia.
In their later years, James and Jane made their home with their daughter Rachel McPheeters on the Middle River in Augusta County.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with James by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with James:

This James Moore and Jane Walker seem related to this family but I can not see the Hawkins County Tennessee Walker connection. Found within [1] is this;

' "In 1726 James Moore and his brother Joseph Moore left Ireland and settled in Chester County, Pennsylvania. Joseph died in 1728; James married Jane Walker, a descendant of the Rutherford's of Scotland. John Walker and James Moore, his son-in-law, left Pennsylvania and settled in Rockbridge County, Virginia near the Jump Mountain. Their decedents live in Virginia and Kentucky." This is an abstract from a small book belonging to the Walker's of Hawkins County, Tennessee. The book also states that the Rutherford family Bible brought from Scotland and containing a 2nd of several generations further back, and now in the possession of some of the Walker descendants in Kentucky.'
