Biography

Hugh Morgan was born in August 1796 in Crane Creek, Granite Quarry District, Providence Township, Rowan, North Carolina, USA. He was the son of Nathan Morgan and Naomi Van Poole.

  • Hugh Morgan and Mary "Polly" Van Pool were married on the 28th of September 1816 in Rowan County, North Carolina. [1] [2]
  • 1860 US Federal Census for Salisbury, Rowan County, North Carolina (Post Office: Gold Hill) shows Hugh Morgan (age 60) Married, Head of House, Farmer and his wife Mary Ann (age 57) with five children - a son: Ivey (age 20) Day Laborer, and four daughters: Viney (age 40), Joice (age 30), Patsey (age 27) and Delila E (age 17). [3]
  • 1870 US Federal Census for Morgan Township, Rowan County, North Carolina (Post Office: Gold Hill) shows Hugh Morgan (age 73) Married, Head of House, Farmer and his wife Polly (age 58) and their daughter Joice (age 28) No occupation and son John Pool (age 11) {Works on farm} were both part of their household.   • Hugh passed away on the 11th of August 1877 (age 81) in Rowan, North Carolina. He was buried in the Morgan Cemetery in Morgan Township, Rowan County, North Carolina. [5] Inscription: Age 81 Years
