most data was added by others after I drew the original profile back in 2011.

My computer records have a record drawn from the Official Baronage by Doyle1886 and has her birth data as 2 May 1304 born in Ludlow, Herefordshire, I also have references to the data held in wikipedia "Margaret Mortimer, Baroness Berkeley - From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Margaret_Mortimer,_Baroness_Berkeley

What is the source of her claimed birthplace of Berkeley, Gloucester? Is it a coincidence this is her future husband's seat etc; or an error?

marriage dates conflict with profile date by some 10 years. as also is the given marriage date of 1319 as opposed to 1329, Which is correct?

Yes, our bio blurb (1329) contradicts our database (1319) marriage date, for this profile. That's a problem the profile manager(s) should resolve; and if we don't know (ie un-sourced) then respectfully, we should remove the claim from the database and present the two options in the bio as an unresolved issue.

According to Lewis, as linked from our bio already:

  • "A contract for the marriage of Margaret de Mortimer and Sir Thomas de Berkeley, 3rd Lord Berkeley, Marshal of the English Army in France was signed on 10 May 1319." (This isn't directly cited as sourced from Richardson, but may have been. The next sentence is.)
  • "Margaret de Mortimer and Sir Thomas de Berkeley, 3rd Lord Berkeley, Marshal of the English Army in France obtained a marriage license on 28 August 1329; Date of Papal Dispensation for being related in the 4th degree of kindred." (This is sourced by Lewis from Richardson. I haven't seen Richardson's actual sources.)

Robin, can you edit the marriage date in the database to be "after 28 Aug 1329" rather than the current "after 10 May 1319"?

Richardson, Douglas. Royal Ancestry: A Study In Colonial And Medieval Families, in 5 vols. (Salt Lake City, Utah, 2013). Vol., I, page 332 BERKELEY 7.

Thomas De Berkeley, Knt., son by father's 1st marriage, married (1st) 10 may 1319 Margaret De Mortimer, daughter of Roger de Mortimer, Knt., by Joan, daughter of Peter de Joinville, Knt,. They had four sons, Maurice, Thomas, Roger, and Alphonse, and one daughter, Joan (wife of Reynold Cobham, Knt.). He married (2nd) Katherine De Clivedon, widow of Peter le Veel, and daughter of John de Clivedon, by his wife, Emma. They had four sons, Thomas, Maurice, Edmund, and John, Knt.,

Thank you!

https://archive.org/stream/berkeleymanuscri01smyt#page/298/mode/1up/search/roger p 298-299 talks about m to Thomas Berkeley in 14th year of Edward II (would be 1321). But Margaret b 1307 & m 1321 is alluded to next page, which notes that it was the 2nd year of Edward III (1329) before "hee brought her to Berkeley: And (as I conceive) then (through her tender years) unto his bed"
