Notes

Jacob' Moss enlisted in the 36th Illinois Volunteer Infantry August 26, 1861. He was assigned to Co C and the entire regiment was mustered into service September 23, 1861. Jacob served there until his death, which is believed to have occured May 17, 1864, at the battle of Adairsville, GA. Proof for this is being researched. The Illinois State Archives agree with enlistment and muster dates. It says that he was 25, height 5' 8", brown hair, blue eyes, light complextion and that he was a farmer from Auburn, Lincoln Co., MO. 1

This same archives says that he reenlisted as a veteran January 1, 1864 at Chattanooga, TN. There is a comment that he was killed June 19, 1864 at Adairsville, GA. June 19 is usually listed as the date of the Battle of Kennesaw Mountain, although both were part of continuous series of engagements from mid May to July 2. 1

It would appear that Vincent's unit was engaged in these battles but was not killed here.
