Susannah Lurannah Mulkey was born about 1752 in Rowan, Surry, North Carolina, presumed daughter of Philip Mulkey (1732–1801) and Ann Ellis (~1726–~1793).

Susannah (17) married Charles Duncan (21) (born in May, 1748 in Rowan; son of Marshall Duncan I and Mary Ann W. (Durron) Duncan) in 1770 in Rowan County, N.C. Their children were:
Susannah died on August 9, 1828 in Knob Creek, Washington, Tennessee, USA, aged about 76. She was buried in Duncan Melvin Carathers Cemetery, Washington County, Tennessee.[1]

The settlement of Dekalb Cout begins in 1779 with Adam Dale ans started the settlement of Smith Fork with is where the town of Liberty is today. He liked the area and sent word back to Maryland and a colony of forty famiies came. The family names included Willm and John Dale, Thomas West, George Givans, Thomas Whatley, Josiah Duncan, James and William Bratton, Henry Burton, and the Walks, and the Fruits and others . More families came to the area between 1800 and 1820 including another Duncan family Thomas Duncan.
Dekalb county, Tn was formed Dec 2 1837 from portions of Smith Warren White and Cannon Counties.

5-416 to 422 Allen vs Duncan et.a: the bill of complaint of William H Allen, a creditor of DeKalb County Tn vs Susannah Duncan, widow and relict of John Duncan deed, Lylborn Chandler & wife Nancy (formerly Nancy Duncan) citizens of Smith Co Tn., George Gregston and his wife Catherine ( formerly Catherine Duncan) Richard M Duncan, Elizaberth Duncan, Joseph E Duncan, Jesse A Duncan, John L Duncan, Winneh Duncan, Sarah H Duncan, Licetty Duncan, Cary R Duncan, Sarah Moore, William Moore citizens of Smith Co Tn, Martha Moore, John Moore citizens of Sumner Co Tn that sometime in 1839. John Duncan purchased land in Dekalb Co. Tn and from one Reuben Brown for 0 amd paid 0 and gave notes for the balance, due said Brown on 1 aug 184?, one for 0, the other for 0 payable to said Brown or Bird Billings?, the orator (William Allen) became security for said Duncan for the payment of 0; Brown made a deed in fee simple for the land to John Duncan., who shortly afterwards took possession by remaining upon the land . Some time in Oct 1839 Duncan died inestate, leaving said Susannah his widow and Nancy who had married Libourn Chandler,Catherine who had married Geroger Gregston, Richard M., Elizabeth, Joseph E, Jesse A ., Johh L., Winney, Sarah H., Licetty and Cary R Duncan his children and Sarah, Martha, John and William R Moore 4 granchildren, the offspring of Mary Moore deceased daugher of inestate, his heirs at law , in whom your orator is informed the title to the land vested upon the death of said John Duncan... the land on the bank of the Cany Fork below the mouth of mine...creek then up the river south east, crossing the creek the north up the bluff with the fence adj ? to Isham Davis? containing 380 acrea . John Duncan and widow Susannah (was administrator). John Duncan has no other assets to pay the debt; requested that the tract of land be made liable for payment of the balance of the purchase price; that the minors by their guardians... that subpoinas be issued for them to and were the complaint; that a lien be attached to the land for payment of the balance. That ten of the defendantts are minors within 21 years of age and have no guradian. Filed Aug 1840 by Susanna Duncan and others listed above.
Susannah admits to be the widow and that her husband did purchase the land and the above are his heirs. Statement wit by Hosea Stamp, jeremiah Freeland?
The case was to be heard in court 10 Feb 1841 The judge ruled Mr Allen should be paid the amount due him.
