Donna Reed was an American film and television actress and producer. She received an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her performance as Lorene Burke in the war drama From Here to Eternity.
Donna Belle Mullenger was born January 27, 1921 in Crawford, Iowa, to William Richard Mullenger and Hazel Shives. She was the eldest of 5 children.
In the 1930 census Donna (age 9) was the daughter of Wm Mullenger in Nishnabotny, Crawford, Iowa, United States.[1]
In the 1940 census Donnabelle (age 19) was the single daughter of William Mullenger in Nishnabotny, Crawford, Iowa.[2]
She married Tony Owen and had the following children:
They divorced in May 1971.[3]
Donna (age 53) married Grover W Asmus on 30 August 1974 in Los Angeles, California, United States.[4]
Donna's career spanned more than 40 years, with performances in more than 40 films. While attending Los Angeles City College she gave an impressive screen test for MGM Studios and was signed to a contract. She is well known for her role as Mary Hatch Bailey in Frank Capra's 1946 film It's a Wonderful Life.She made her screen debut in "The Getaway" (1941), followed by supporting roles in "Apache Trail" (1942), "Gentle Annie" (1944), "They Were Expendable" (1945), "It's A Wonderful Life" (1946), and "Scandal Sheet" (1952). In 1953, she was awarded the Best Supporting Actress Oscar for her role as Alma, the dancehall girl in the film "From Here To Eternity." Her other credits included "The Last Time I Saw Paris" (1954), "The Far Horizons" (1955), "The Benny Goodman Story" (1956), "Ransom" (1956), and "The Whole Truth" (1958). For television, she is best remembered for her own series, "The Donna Reed Show," which aired from 1958 to 1966.[5]
Donna died on 14 January 1986 and was buried in Westwood Memorial Park, Westwood, Los Angeles County, California, United States.[6]
