Catherine Munch was born in Maryland in August 1777, oldest daughter of Philip and Magdalena and was baptized in the Lutheran Church in Frederick, Maryland, 21 December 1777. She was still at home in 1807, when her mother wrote a will, but married David McInturff, a widowed neighbor, the following year. In 1811 David and Catherine McInturff, were among the heirs of Philip Munch who sold their interest in her father's land to her brother, Daniel. Catherine was mother of nine children. David McInturff died in 1845 and in 1850 Catherine was living with her son, Frederick and in 1860 with her son, Philip. There is no grave marker for Catherine and a specific death date is not known.
Will of David McInturff, Shenandoah County, Virginia Will Book "X," p. 173 (probated March 10, 1845.) He did not name any children.
Heirs of Philip Munch named in a deed, selling land, Shenandoah County, Will Book "S," pp. 105-6. Shenandoah County Circuit Court, Court House, Woodstock, Virginia.
Her sons Frederick and Philip both stated in the 1880 census that their mother was born in Maryland and indeed, a search of Maryland records led to the discovery of her birth and baptism. It would appear then that her parents may have married in western Maryland and came to Powell's Fort Valley from Maryland with the Cullers and Ritenour families all about 1778-1779.
