Is it possible that this James Murch emigrated to the South Australian Colony in 1854 on the Magdelana; arriving at Port Adelaide on the 16th January 1855. If so his name has been incorrectly transcribed as John from the original Passenger list. His father was described as a 36 year old quarryman from Tormoham in Devon named James Murch also. The family that accompanied James included his wife Elizabeth aged 41, a son John 12, Hannah 8, Elizabeth 5 and Margaret aged 2. The ages don't quite match the ages from the 1851 Census; but could have been incorrectly transcribed.
Mr J. G. Murch passed away in October 1906 and from his Death Notice in the Evening Journal of Friday 5 October 1906 we see:
