Biography

Elisha, son of John and Elizabeth Mirick [Myrick] was born on 5 March 1700/01 to John and Elizabeth Mirick, of record in Newton, Massachusetts.[1]

On 14 November 1728, Elisha Mirik and Grace Rogers, both of the North Parish of New London, Connecticut, [now Montville] were married there.[2]

According to James S. Rogers' James Rogers of New London, Ct., and his descendants, at a date not specified in the source, but cited as of record in Montville, "Thomas Way and Amy his wife of Lyme; Thomas Greene and Esther his wife of Middletown; John Congdon and Anne his wife of New London; Peter Comstock and Sarah his wife of New London, quit claim to William Maples their share in a tract of land granted and bargained by Grace Mirick to said Maples."[3]

Elisha and Grace (Rogers) Mirick/Myrick were the parents of the following children:[3]

  • Ann Mirick, b. about 1729; m. John Congdon;
  • Ame/Amy Mirick, b. about 1732; m. Thomas Way;
  • Esther Mirick, b. about 1735; m. (1) Elijah Smith,[4], (2) Thomas Green[e];
  • Sarah Mirick, b. about 1744; m. Peter Comstock.

Elisha probably died in New London County. A review of deeds may help to determine the date and place more definitively.

FamilySearch, film # 7,011,106, page 10 / image 8. Note: the sequence of dates in these records appears to indicate that records were, at this time, mostly being made using old-style dates, but in Elisha's case, entries prior to his record are from February 1699 and entries which follow are from April, August and September 1700. This might lead us to conclude he was probably born in 1699/1700, but the entry immediately previous to his is that of his sister Elizabeth. Her birth date is difficult to decipher, and the last digit of the year is particularly obscure, but it appears to read Nov, or maybe X'r [December] 1699. If that is the case, it is unlikely her brother was born 3 or 4 months later, and so we conclude his birth was in 1700/01.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Elisha by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Elisha:
