There is a long article about Christiern Månsson in Svenskt biografiskt lexikon, where his exact dates of birth and death are given. Christiern was the son of a Danish vicar, who died when Christiern was still a boy. In spite of periodically ill health, young Christiern seems to have made good use of the education he had received.
He came to Sweden in 1620 and served as steward at Axholm in Västmanland, owned by Magnus Brahe. After Brahe's death in 1633, Christiern Månsson served Brahe's son-in-law Jakob De la Gardie in the same function. He soon became a businessman in his own right, very active in the development of the Swedish metal production (iron and copper), which was booming during his lifetime. He lived mostly in Ramnäs parish, where he reconstructed the neglected hammer, Ramnäshammaren, and founded a number of new hammers.
With his wife, Karin Eriksdotter (from Haraker parish), whom he married 6 November 1625, he had a thriving and well educated family. Six sons reached maturity.
