Biography

Birth

Magdalena was born on September 17, 1858 in the village of Hoffnungstal in the Akkermann district of the Bessarabian area and Black Sea region of South Russia to Georg Naasz and Margaretha Mueller. She was the seventh of their 13 children. Magdalena was baptized on September 21, 1858 and confirmed on March 24, 1874.[1][2]


Family

On January 19, 1879, at the age of 20, Magdalena married Johannes Scherbenske (1859-1937) in the nearby village of Klöstitz.[3][4][5]

Immigration

On June 12, 1886, at the age of 27, Magdalena, along with her husband and 2 children, arrived in New York aboard the S.S. Ems traveling from Bremen, Germany.[6]


Death

On May 6, 1920, at the age of 61, Magdalena passed away in Artas, SD. She is buried in Artas Cemetery.[7][8]
