Biography

Married in 1824 to Julia Crouse age 19. Lived in PA 6 yrs then moved to OH in 1830. Five children John,George, Catherine , Margaret, Sarah. Moved to Parke Co. IN. More children Jeremiah, Elias, David, Michael. Moved to IA in 1842. Isaiah, Aaron, Cassinda. Father is John 1760-1770. Mother is Catherine 1770-1780. Date of death unknown. Lived in Upper Strasburg PA. Johns mother was Eve Smith Newman 1700-1740. When she died ther were 6 children over age 21. Two sons John and Nicholas were appointed administrators of her estate. She owned property in Harrisburg at the corner of Front and River Alley Streets. Philip is buried in Glenwood cemetery, Glenwood Mills Iowa. Five of seven sons, George, Elias,David, Aaron, and Isaiah volunteered for the 8th Iowa infantry. Elias married to Rebecca with a 2 year old daughter Sabra. Davenport Iowa. Buried at Indiana Chapel near Knoxville Iowa. George was murdered in 1912.

Philip ( Pilip Numan) was christened Jan. 28, 1804 in Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church, Pleasant Hall, Franklin, PA. Father is shown as Johannes Numan, Mother is shown as Catarina.
