Biography

Burt was born on June 4, 1913. He was the son of John Newport and Elizabeth Jeffers.[1]

Burt Newport married Artie Lawson August 12, 1929, in Scott County, Tennessee, USA.[2]

Burt was ordained July 22, 1956 as a minister of the gospel.

He passed away from heart decompensation, carcinoma of the lungs and bronchial asthma on April 17, 1966.[3] He was buried in Cook Cemetery in Winona, Scott County, Tennessee, USA.[4]

Burt worked as a laborer for the Rail Road, he passed away from heart decompensation and carcinoma of the lungs due to bronchial asthma at the Scott County Hospital in Oneida, Scott County.

Obituary,

Burt Dorsey Newport, age 52, passed away at the Scott County Hospital Sunday, April 17, 1966, after an illness of 1 year. He was the son of the late Elizabeth and John L. Newport. He was a lifelong citizen of Scott County and a member of the Winona Baptist Church. Survivors: wife, Arthie Newport of Winona, Tennessee; 4 sons, Harold, Dorsey and Archie Newport all of Winona, Tennessee, Henry Newport of Dayton, Ohio; 1 daughter, Mrs. Betty Jean Blackson of Dayton, Ohio; 3 brothers, Audney Newport of Oneida, Tennessee, Lawrence Newport of Winona, Tennessee and Burl Newport of Salt Lake City, Utah; 1 sister, Mrs. Lucinda Davis of Oneida, Tennessee; half-brother, J. L. Newport of Michigan; 13 grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were conducted from the Winona Baptist Church Tuesday, April 19, 1966 at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Carl Jeffers and Rev. Odie Brummett officiating. Burial followed in the Cook Cemetery. Arrangements by West Funeral Home. (Source: The Scott County News, 22 Apr 1966, p1)
