Sarah Nicholson was born in Rochester, Kent, England.
Sarah Nicholson was born on 23 Feb 1801. She was baptised at St Nicholas of Myra, Rochester, Kent on 31 March that year, and was the daughter of William Nicholson and his wife Isabella. Her father was described in the parish register as "one of the Common Council men of this City".[1]
Sarah remained unmarried throughout her life. The 1841 Census recorded her living with her father, unmarried siblings and servants in St Margaret Street, Rochester St Margaret, Kent. Also present were her sisters Isabella Saunders and Elizabeth Phillips, and two of Isabella's children; it's not clear whether they were part of the household or were visiting.[2][3]
Sarah Nicholson died aged 44 on 30 Aug 1845,[4] and was buried on 6 Sept at St Margaret of Antioch, Rochester. The parish register recorded her address as St Margaret's Street,[5] but the registration of her death was in Dover, indicating that she died in that district.[6]
Sarah is believed to be the third person commemorated on the south side of the family tomb in the churchyard of St Margaret of Antioch, Rochester, along with her sisters Jane and Caroline:
" Jane Nicholson died -------- 1825 aged----years. ----------- Nicholson died ------June 1837 aged----- years. ----------- Nicholson ----------" [4]
