Barry Nelson (April 16, 1917 – April 7, 2007) was an American actor, noted as the first actor to portray Ian Fleming's secret agent James Bond.

Haakon Robert (Barry) Nelson Nielsen was born 16 Apr 1917 in Alameda, California, United States.[1] He was the son of Ted Nielsen and Betsy Christofesen.

Contested Mother

The mother connected, Betsy (Kristoffersdatter) Aase, has many reasons to believe false but only the marriage to a person with the same name as the father to say she is correct. The connection is suspect and chould not be counted as true at this time.Byers-779 06:57, 26 May 2017 (EDT)

Education and Career

After graduating from the University of California, Berkeley, in 1941, Nelson was signed to MGM after being spotted by a talent scout. He appeared in a number of films for the studio in 1942, including "Shadow of the Thin Man," "Johnny Eager" and "Dr. Kildare's Victory." He also landed the leading role in "A Yank on the Burma Road," playing a cab driver who decides to lead a convoy of trucks for the Chinese government.

Marriage

Nelson had two wives, actress Teresa Celli, married in 1951 and later divorced, and Nansilee ("Nansi") Hoy, married in 1992, to whom he was married until his death. Nelson and his second wife divided their time between homes in New York and France. He did not have any children from either marriage.[2]

Death and Burial

He died 7 Apr 2007 in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, United States and was buried in Lansdale Cemetery, Lansdale, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, USA, Plot: New Sec A Crypt # 24.[3]
