William was baptized 28 Aug 1666. ^[1][2] He is the son of Alexander Nisbet and Katherine Porterfield.

William married 1st 29th Mar 1688 Edinburgh.^[3] to Jean Bennett she was buried 15 Mar 1710 William married 2nd marriage contract 20 Apr 1711 and married 23 Apr 1711 Edinburgh ^[4] to Jean Bennett she died 29 Jun 1762 dau of Mr Robert Bennett, Dean of the faculty of Advocates

William, of Dirleton, died 23 October 1724, and interred in the Grayfriars ^[5] 1724 That morning (Tuesday?) expired, at his House at RESTALRIG, the Honoured WILLIAM NISBET of DIRLETOUN, Esq; deservedly regretted; by his equals, for his generous, good-natur’d, and engaging Deportment; and no less so by his Inferiours, for his affability and Kindness, and a ready Hand to the Necessities of the indigent.
