Joseph Sandlin was born in 1799 and married Peniah Norwood in 1817. They were both natives of South Carolina, but spent their early years of married life in Morgan County where they owned a small tract of land and labored on the frontier.

To Joseph and Peniah Sandlin ten children were born. The first son died young.


Obituary for Penninah Norwood Sandlin: The Moulton Advertiser Thursday December 7, 1882

An aged mother has fallen in Israel - a land mark has been wiped out by the angel of death. On the 19th of November 1882, Mrs. Penninah SANDLIN, who was in her 86th year, shook off this mortal dust and passed up into the courts of glory. It is said that she has 9 married children, and a large number of grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.[2]
