Biography

Sarah Odell was born in Westchester, New York Province in 1696 to John Odell and Hannah Turner.

Sarah Odell married Johannes Vermilye on Oct. 29, 1713. On the same day, her brother John Odell married his sister Hannah Vermilye. The marriages were recorded at the Manhattan, Reformed Dutch Church of NY.[1]

Sarah Odell Vermilje died, about 1733, possibly from complications in delivering daughter Rebeckah.

Johannes Vermilyea had about 13 children, all born in Lower Yonkers, Westchester, Province of New York. Which children were born to which of his wives is disputed. Based on the analysis of Sandra Vermilea Todd, the following list of those born to Sarah appears more likely than others.[2]Johannes and Sarah Odell Vermilyea had, in Yonkers, on these approximate dates:

  • unnamed child, b. 1714, died young
  • Johannes/John, b. about 1716
  • Antje/Anna, b. 1718
  • Abraham, b. 1721
  • Aeltie, b. 1723
  • Maritie, b. 1728, m. Johannes Waldron, her second cousin
  • Sarah, b. 1731, not mentioned in father's will so likely died young
  • Rebecca, b. 1733

Odell-62 and Odell-1 appear to represent the same person because: They have almost the same birth date, same husband, same father (in two profiles also needing a merge) and are clearly the same person. Each profile has details the other lacks, so please merge them and combine into one fairly complete profile.
