He lived with his parents in 1851 at Rosmount, Blairgowrie, Perth Scotland [3] The census transcription says he was 28, but I believe that is in error in transcription.
David is found at the Middle Drimmie Farm as a servant when he was 14, census describes him as a hafflin. Which I am to understand means half grown.[4]
In 1871 he is found with his wife Janet in Coupar Angus, Angus, Scotland[5]

David married Janet Keir daughter of James Keir and Betsy Duff on 5 Jun 1868 in Auchtergaven, Perth, Scotland.[6]
In 1871 census he is listed as a flesher (skinner)[11]
