James, born 2 August 1842, in Bonavista, Newfoundland, Canada[1], was the first son of John Oldford and Elizabeth Chancey.
James was a Newfoundland fisherman. He may have worked for his brother-in-law Bennett Womboldt.[2]
On 5 November 1863 James married Jane Saint in Bonavista, Newfoundland, Canada[3].
James and Jane had no children.
James married Mary Saint in Bonavista, Newfoundland, Canada, on 9 November 1866. [4]
They had two sons: Charles Ackman Oldford[5] and Alexander Eugene Oldford[6].
On 8 January 1876, James married Rebecca Butler in Newfoundland[7].
James and Rebecca had two children; a girl, Ida Elizabeth and a boy, William Livingstone.
There may have been a few other children but we need to make sure the records are for the same James and Rebecca.
On 16 November 1888, James married Amelia Perry in Catalina, Newfoundland, Canada. [8].
James and Amelia had 4 boys and a girl; Dorothy, Heber Lewis, Wallace, Stewart and James MacDonald.

James had four wives. He didn't have any children with his first wife or his third, but he had a total of 13 or more between his second (Mary) and his fourth (Amelia).
