DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with John by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with John:

No idea the accuracy of the source, but History of Pittsburgh and Environs|History of Pittsburgh and Environs]] (The American Historical Society, New York and Chicago, 1922, Vol. 4, p. 115-119) states that his parents are Colonel Samuel Oldham (1682-1762) and Elizabeth (Newton) Oldham. Not James and Ruth Hill. The source could be incorrect though, but possible.
