He married Sophia Streeter, daughter of Benjamin and Welthy Streeter. The couple settled in Burke, Vermont, and had at least nine children, as follows:
Melissa Catherine, b. 5 March 1828; m. John Magoon, 24 May 1849; d. 5 June 1910
Mary Calista, b. abt, 1830; m. Charles H. Litchfield, 13 Jan. 1859
Susan Norris Orcutt, b. 21 June 1832; m. Chase Gilman, 1860; d. 9 Aug. 1900[2]
Zelotus, b. 22 April 1844; m. Harriet Spooner, 20 May 1868
Sabrina, b. abt. 1847; m. George Albert Gardner, 16 Jan. 1878; and
Leslie Sophia, b. abt. 1850.
The last three children were born in Potton, Canada East, meaning that the family had migrated across the border in about 1843. In 1861, the family was recorded on the Canada East census, in Potton.[4] Similarly in 1871.[5]
In 1881, John is recorded on the Potton, Quebec census, with his wife Sophia.[6] There was a "Rodney Orcutt, Age 47" living right next door.
He lost his wife in 1882, then passed away himself 9 years later in 1891 at the age of 91.[7][8]
