Biography

Phineas Orndorff was born in Frederick County, Virginia on 25 Mar 1793. He was the son of Johannes Orndorff and his consort, Hannah McElwee. Phineas served during the War of 1812, enlisting in Coleman's 6th Regiment of the Virginia Militia, serving as Corporal from August until December 1814.[1]

On 30 Aug 1823, he married Eleanor Borden in Shenandoah County.[2][3] They had the following children:

  1. Phineas "Morgan" Orndorff, b. 21 Aug 1824, Strasburg, Shenandoah Co.; d. 31 Mar 1900, Mount Joy, Scott County, Iowa;[4] m. abt. 1859, Amelia Propst.[5]
  2. Joseph Bordon Orndorff, b. 17 Apr 1826, Shenandoah Co.; d. 6 Jan 1909, Frederick Co.;[6] m. 7 Oct 1856, Jemima Keller.[7][6]
  3. Mason D. Orndorff, b. 15 Jun 1830; d. 15 Jan 1879 in jail in Shenandoah Co.;[8] m. 4 Sep 1866, Mary Catherine Orndorff, daughter of Lewis and Elizabeth Orndorff.[9]
