William Thomas was born in 1896. He was the son of William Henry Overend and Alice Nisbet. [1] He passed away in 1916 age 21. [2]

He give his next of kin as W. Overend (father), Railway Road, Hastings. He embarked 8 January 1916 from Wellington, for Suez, Egypt aboard HMNZT 38 or HMNZT 39 the vessels "Tahiti" or "Warrimoo". He was a Rifleman with the 3rd Reinforcements, 2nd Battalion, F Company of the New Zealand Rifle Brigade. Private Overend died of wounds on 9 June 1916 in France, serving with the Wellington Infantry Regiment, 2nd Battalion . He is buried at Cite Bonjean Military Cemetery, Armentieres, France (Grave reference II. A. 38)
