Rev. Benjamin Oviatt, son of Elisha and Mary Barber Oviatt was raised near Troy, New York, received a good education and became a minister of the Baptist Church, was ordained in 1815. His obituary reads: 1864 Died. At his sister's in Hornellsville, New York July 17, 1864 where he was on a visit, after an illness of three days, Benjamin Oviatt aged 80 years and 11 months. His sister was Polly Eddy.
