FENNIMORE TIMES-11-APR-1934. J.H. Palmer. In the passing of J.H. Palmer, we have lost one of the oldest and most. respected citizens of Bagley and our community. While in frail health for a. number of years, Mr. Palmer retained unusual strength and it was only about. two weeks ago that any special notice became apparent in his failing health. and his departure from this life came suddenly and peacefully, on Saturday. might, March 24, at the age of 89 years, 3 months and 24 days. Joseph Henry Palmer, oldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Philip Palmer, was born in. Sherman Chautauqua Co., N.Y., Nov. 30, 1844. At the age of 3 years he came to. Wisconsin with his parents and baby sister, and settled on a farm between. Bridgeport and Patch Grove. Two years later they moved to a farm near. Brodtville where he grew to manhood. He received his education at the old log. schoolhouse at Brodtville, where his mother taught for some time. July 2, 1868, he was united in marriage to Sarah E. Richardon. This union. was blessed with three children, Anna and Ella and one son, who died in. infancy. They began housekeeping on a farm on Blake's Prairie; after six years. during which time they lived on several rented farms they moved to Andubon,. Iowa, where they lived eight years. Not being satisfied with this adventure. they returned to Wisconsin again, locating on the farm formerly owned by his. father near Brodtville where they lived 29 years. They then retired from. active life and purchased a home in the village of Bagley. Their greatest. happiness was when they were permitted to celebrate their 50th wedding. anniversary in 1918, an occasion long to be remembered by the participants,. and ten years later their 60th anniversary. The interruption of this quiet happy home came with the death of his wife on. May 22, 1930. The devoted husband never became reconciled to the absence of. his beloved wife and companion. Reluctantly he closed the home and went to. live with his daughter Anna with whom he stayed until she moved to Chicago. At. that time he was taken to the home of his daughter, Ella, where he spent his. remaining years. He will be sadly missed in this home where his every wish was. granted during the time he had been in a helpless condition which had been a. heavy burden for those on whose care he depended. During his active life he. was a devoted husband and father, a friendly and obliging neighbor, a. patriotic and a law abiding citizen. He was a lifelong member of the I.O.O.F., always faithful to the obligations. and received many thoughtful attentions from his brothers that he greatly. appreciated in his declining years. Those who are left to mourn are his two daughters, Mrs. Anna Clifton of. Chicago and Mrs. Ella Patch of Bagley, one sister, Mrs.Fannie Irons of. Brownsdale, Minn., five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held from the home to the M.E. church Monday at 2 pm,. Rev. H.A. Allison officiated. Interment was made in the Brodtville cemetery. beside his wife who preceded him in death. Six friends acted as casket. bearers. I.O.O.F. No. 159 gave their impressive burial service at the grave. The floral offering were profuse and beautiful. The vast crowd of relatives. and sympathizing friend that attended the funeral showed the great respect in. which he was held. CARD OF THANKS----We wish to express our sincere gratitude to the many friend. and most generous neighbors for their sympathy and kind assistance during the. death and burial of our dear father.--Mr. and Mrs. Fred Patch, Mrs. Anna. Clifton.
