Biography

Flag of Cambridgeshire (adopted 2015)
Sarah (Parish) Legget was born in Cambridgeshire, England.

it is generally accepted that Smith's mother, Sarah Parish is the daughter of Jonas Parish and his wife Ann. If so, she was baptized at Toft on 19 February 1775.[1]

Possible Marriage: On 3rd May 1798, our Sarah Parish may have married Matthew Legget at Chatteris, Cambridgeshire. Sarah is recorded as a Widow, but this might be only to explain her having a son. Else, this is not our Sarah Parish at all. [2][3]

Possible Death: Sarah, the wife of Matthew Leggett, aged 35, was buried on 12th March 1809 at Chatteris, Cambridgeshire. On the same day, their infant son, John Leggett was also buried. [4]

Research Notes

Some trees suggest Sarah married Henry Izzard, 6 November 1820, at Caldecote. — "England, Cambridgeshire Bishop's Transcripts, 1599-1860," database with images, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:Q2ZH-S1NZ : 15 December 2016), Henry Izzard and Sarah Parish, 06 Nov 1820; citing Marriage, Caldecote, Cambridgeshire, England, United Kingdom, Cambridge University Library, Cambridge.; FHL microfilm 1,818,373.

However, this marriage is also attributed to Sarah Parish, the daughter of our Sarah's brother John - and this seems more sensible as the rate of children produced suggests a young mother. That is also the Sarah who died in 1833.
