DEATHS ON THE MACLEAY.
A very old and much respected resident of this district in the person of Mr. Charles Parish, of Commandant Hill, died very suddenly on Monday morning last. The deceased gentleman appeared to be in his usual health on Sunday and came over twice to church, in the morning and afternoon. He slept well on Sunday night, but on rising in the morning he complained of a severe pain in the back. Mrs. Parish sent for the doctor, but before the arrival of the medical man her husband had passed away. Heart failure was the cause of death. The late Mr. Parish was 71 years of age. He was born at Arksden, Essex, where so many of the sturdy pioneers of settlement in this district hailed from. He came to this State 48 years ago and soon after settled on the Macleay, where he won for himself a competency by sheer industry. Some years ago the late Mr. Parish paid a visit to his native country and he lived retired for a considerable time past. Deceased leaves a widow, three sons and four daughters. The sons are Messrs. Josiah,Fred and Allan Parish and the daughters Mesdames A. Edwards, Charles Sydenham, E. E. Trees and H. Judd. One daughter predeceased him. The funeral took place at the East Kempsey Cemetery on Tuesday and was numerously attended by residents from all parts of the district, The Revs. W. Pearson and H. S. Bowden and Ensign Powley, of the Salvation Army, solemnized the last sad rites at the graveside. [11]
