Biography

Margaret [Maggie] Parlane was born on 21 January 1877 while her parents were living in Sydney, Australia for a short time. [1]

On 20th December 1911 Maggie married William [Bill] Gillespie at the Mosgiel Registry Office near Dunedin in Otago, New Zealand when both were 34 years of age.[2] One of the witnesses was Maggie's younger sister Agnes [Aggie] Parlane; the other Bill's older brother Thomas [Tom] Gillespie.

The couple settled at 10 Mure Street in Mosgiel near Dunedin. They had no children of their own but adopted two girls, Edna and Inez.

Maggie Gillespie died at Milton Hospital in South Otago on 30 April 1973 at the age of 96. [3] She was buried with Bill at the East Taieri Cemetery in Mosgiel near Dunedin. [4]
