Sarah "Sally" Patch was born on 1 June 1770, in Ware, Hampshire, Massachusetts, United States, her father, Ephriam Patch, was 47 and her mother, Penelope Dana, was 39.

She married John Tanner on 30 December 1790. They were the parents of at least 2 sons and 3 daughters.
