Biography

Richard Patton of Croghan was born about 1680 in Ireland.[1] His wife was Mary Unknown.[1] He was the son of Henry Patton. He passed away in 1751.[1]

Research Notes

Richard Patton was born ca. 1680; he married Mary .... (56) In Nov. 1723 he was in possession of his grandfather's estate "Croghan"; it is not clear whether he was the eldest son of Henry Patton, who was still living in 1723. Evidently by 1723 he felt that he needed to make plans for the disposition of Croghan as he was apparently childless. On 2 Nov. of that year he executed a deed giving his brother William and his heirs the remainder interest in Croghan. On the death of his father in 1743 Springfield went to Andrew (see below), so either Richard was a younger son, or Henry had made special provision for Andrew. In 1750, married but elderly and childless, on October 5th Richard made a settlement agreement with his nephew, Charles Patton, who was then serving in General LaGrange's [or Legonier?] Regiment of Horse in Ireland, to assure that Charles would come into possession of Croghan after Richard and his wife Mary died. After his death in 1751, Richard's estate was administered at Raphoe, Co. Donegal. (56)[1]
