Biography

Mary was born in 1892 at Mid-Countlich, Dowally, Perthshire, Scotland. She was the second child of James Peebles and Mary (Robertson) the family would eventually grow to ten children. By the 1901 census Mary Anne had five siblings and they still stayed at her birth address. Her father was a forestry worker. The 1911 census the other nine children were with there parents, but Mary Anne had left home and was working at White house, Balnabeggan farm, Persie, near Blairgowrie in Perthshire where she was a domestic servant.

She married [[Evans-25314|Alfred Evans], an English soldier in the Cameron Highlanders, in 1916. That same year her first daughter Mary (Molly) was born [[Evans-25315|Mary Evans]. Around the time of the birth of her second daughter Margaret [[Evans-25316|Margaret Evans] Alfred was charged with bigamy and the marriage ended.

Mary Anne later married [[Martin-47565|John Martin on the 20th of March 1922 at Clydebank, Glasgow. John and Mary had a further five children. John worked as a farm labourer/cattleman in various farms and villages around Berwickshire, Scotland before his death in 1939.

Mary Anne died 16th of August 1967.
