ESTIMATING THE MARRIAGE DATE TO 1793... when they were about 20 years old...

Henry Godfrey is in the 1790 census with his father Moses in Vershire, Orange County, Vermont, and in 1807 Moses' will is proved and names Henery Godfrey as one of his children, recorded in the Chelsea probate court records in 1807...

Henry and Ruth are a family by 1800 and they appear in the 1800 census with three children all under 10 in Vershire… I estimated three children born every two years would make the marriage about 1793 or 1794, and since they all lived in Orange County, that is the place...

Ruth died in 1835 in Chelsea, Orange, Vermont, where a death record is recorded saying she was 61 years old, making her birth about 1774, but no birth date is recorded, just her father Aaron Pennock's name in the old records of Strafford, Vermont. She is buried in the old Chelsea cemetery and a photo of her stone is here attached...

The original vital birth record of Ruth Pennock has a blank space where the date would be, but it does give her father's name and the place of birth. I got the 1774 birth year from her age of 61 years at her death in 1835, as given on her cemetery stone in Chelsea, Vermont. - L Fay.
