Richard moved his family to North Carolina some time after 1754. An inquisition held on July 11, 1789 at Lincolnton, Lincoln County North Carolina by Justice John Moore Sr. the jury found that Richard Perkins at age of 76, was killed and murdered by Ezekial Polk Jr. of Mecklenburg county, North cArolina and John Hunter, son of Edward Hunter late of Lincoln county, North Carolina.
On the night of the ninth of July by force and arms they assaulted Richard Perkins They violently threw him to the floor of the courthouse and then there threw him out a second story window. He was killed by the drop of over seventeen feet. The jury found Plk and Hunter had no property in Lincoln County Richard Perkins was the the first person burried at the Old White Church cemetery now the Emanuel cemetery." [1]
