Jacob was the son of Casper [Peter] who settled in what is now Washington, and the account of his descendants will be found in that township. He built the present house in 1761, and placed in the wall a stone with the year marked upon it... p. 549. Caspar Peters, one of the earliest settlers in that part of Heidelberg which is now Washington, came here about 1741, from Switzerland, and took up three hundred acres of land between Unionville and Slatington, and about four miles distant from the latter place. His log house was built where is now the residence of his great-grandson, Daniel Peters. The date of the death of this pioneer progenitor of the Peters family is not known. He was buried in the Union Church Cemetery. He left several sons, among others, John [Peters] and Caspar. The name of Jacob Peters appears in a list of warrants, in which it is indicated that he took up land Jan 28, 1752. Rudolph Peters took up land in 1754. It is not known that these two men were sons of the first Peters, but is presumable that they were...

Jacob Peter, to be a brother of Rudolph and Casper, took out a warrant for thirty-one acres of land on the 12th of March, 1752; nothing is known of his descendants. In 1781 Casper Peter, Casper Peter, Jr., William, Jacob, John, and the Widow Peter were assessed on real estate, and in 1812, John, Daniel, Johannes, Jacob, Theobald, William, Casper, Sr., Casper, Jr., John, Sr., Nicholas, George, Michael, Jacob, Henry, Sr., Henry, Jr., and John Peter, Jr.

It must be born in mind that Heidelberg in 1781 and 1812 embraced Washington. The line of Casper Peter, one of the three brothers, has been well traced. Of the other brothers, Rudolph and Jacob, but little is known of the generation following. Nicholas Peter, whose name appears in 1812, had three sons, - Daniel, Elias, and John Jacob (2d). The latter lived where his son, Joseph, now resides.

Jacob PETER Private PA 17511804 (1)Suzanna Rex

Jacob Peter died April 22nd, 1804, and was buried in the old cemetery connected with the Heidelberg Church. Susanna, the wife of Jacob, died August 3rd, 1823, and was buried beside her husband. The first tombstones which marked their graves, having become affected by the ravages of time, were out of respect to the decedent's memory, replaced in 1907, by their great grand descendants.

That Jacob Peter was possessed of other land, besides the 350 acres and 70 perches referred to above, is shown by deeds of conveyance to his three sons, to wit: On May 7th 1803, Jacob Peter and Susanna, his wife, deeded to their son, Casper, 173 acres 93 perches; On May 17th, 1803, to their son John, 144 acres, 100 perches, and on May 20th, 1803, 182 acres and 96 perches to their son, Jacob. A total of over five hundred acres.

Jacob Peter (a son of Casper Peter) was born March 22nd, 1751, was married to Susanna, a daughter of George Rex. They resided in Heidelberg Township, at first evidently in that part now included in Washington Township. This we base on the fact that their children, John Casper, J. Jacob, Susanna and A. Margaretta, born between the years 1773 and 1786, and according to the baptismal record of the Union Church, were all baptized there, thus indicating that they were members of that Church, during the earlier years of their married life.

From a deed dated Dec. 19th 1785, from Casper Peter to his son, now in the hands of Oscar Leibold, owner of part of the land, it appears that Jacob Peter became the owner of 350 acres and 70 perches of land, and that he resided on part of the same, the location being about one mile east of the Heidelberg Church, this is proven by subsequent conveyances, covering to the present time. A total of over five hundred acres.

Peter-149 and Peter-683 appear to represent the same person because: They have exact birthdays and death dates. In my error, I did not match them when posting because I have last name as Peters
