Biography

Joseph Petitpas was born about 1731 in Port Toulouse, île Royale, Acadia. He was the son of Claude Petitpas and Françoise Lavergne.

Joseph married 1st Marie-Louise Fougère in 1754 in Chezzetook, Nova Scotia. Marie-Louise and Joseph continued to reside in Chezzetook where they raised their family including at least six children including Angelique, b. abt. 1755; Rosalie b. abt. 1757; Jean Baptiste; Julia; Michel, b. July 24, 1765; and Marguerite, b. abt. 1767.

After his first wife, Marie-Louise, died in 1767, Joseph married 2nd Marguerite Breau in Cheezetook, Nova Scotia on July 23, 1768. The witnesses were his brothers Louis and Jean-Baptiste. [1] Joseph had five additional children with Marguerite including Louis b. 1768; Euphrosine b. 1770; Boniface b. 1771; Joseph b. abt. 1774; and Alexandre b. abt. 1778.

Sometime between 1774 and 1778, Joseph removed his family to Tracadie, Nova Scotia, where he died in 1819.
