Biography

George was the Son of George Pew and Elizabeth Lucas.

He married Mary Aldridge 17 January 1825 at St. Mary's Parish Church in Cheltenham, Gloucester, England.

Children:

  1. Thomas Willam (1824-1886)
  2. George Henry (1826-1892) [1]
  3. Sarah born at Sea in July of 1832
  4. Mary E Pugh Coye (1833-1906)
  5. Alfred Pew (1839-1909)

George and Mary immigrated to the United States with their children, two sons, Thomas William and George Henry. Their daughter Sarah was born while still at sea, off the banks of Newfoundland in July of 1832. They settled for a time in New York. George disappeared one day and was never seen again.

Family tradition has it that George Pew disappeared sometime in the 1840's. Some think that he headed out west during the Gold Rush, but there has been no proof or documentation, to date.

George Pew's wife Mary raised their 6 children and much later she married again, about 1850, in or near Rochester, Monroe County, New York. Later Mary (Aldridge) Pew moved with most of her children to Grand Rapids, Michigan. (Information on the residence, birthplace and marriage were from the writings/research of Linda M. Dillon and Sue Kren. via Find A Grave.)
