Notes

Note BI40698age 26-45 in 1820, 50-60 in 1830, 60-70 in 1840, 77 in 1850.

Note NI40698She inherited substantial property at her father's death in 1787, but in 1793 married William Mallory, a drunk and ne'er do well (Goeden). He was undoubtedly the William who appears on the 1810 census at Bourbon County, but there is no further record of him. Ann appears on the 1820, 1830, 1840 and 1850 censuses of Bourbon County, Kentucky in her own name. 1

She appears on the 1820 census as Nancy Mallory at North Middletown. Her household consisted of 1 female 26-45 (herself), 1 male 18-26 (son Valentine), 2 females 16-26, 1 male 16-18 (son Egbert), 2 females 10-16, 1 male under 10 (son William), 1 person engaged in agriculture, 1 person engaged in manufacture, 4 male slaves under 14, 1 female slave under 14, and 2 female slaves 14-26. Her son Timothy appears on the 1820 census in Harrison County, and her son John was probably the other male of equivalent age in Timothy's household. 1 appears on the 1830 census as Nancy Malery in Bourbon County. Her household consisted of 1 female 50-60 (herself), 1 male 20-30, 1 female 15-20, 1 female under 5, 2 female slaves 24-36, 3 male slaves under 10, 4 female slaves under 10. Her neighbors included Robert Matson, James Payton, Thomas Matson and John Payne. In 1830 her son Egbert appears on the census at Paris, Kentucky with 5 males in his household. These men all were probably her younger sons. Her older sons had left the area. John was Harrison County, Kentucky; Timothy was in Jefferson County, Indiana; and Valentine was in Sangamon County, Illinois. 1 used her influence with the Kentucky state legislature to get a private bill of divorce passed, 17 February 1835 (Goeden). 1

In 1835 she executed a power of attorney relating to her father's estate: "Know all men by these presents that we the undersigned: Valentine Peyton of the county of Clay, Missouri and Anna Mallory (two of the children of, and heirs of Timothy Peyton, decd, who was the only heir of Captain Valentine Peyton, decd.) of Bourbon County, Ken. have appointed William H. Todd of Frankfort, Ken. our Atty. Signed by Val. S. Peyton and Ann T. Mallow, 3 Dec., 1835. Ackn. before John Bird, J. of P. Clay County, Mo. Attest, William T. Wood, Clerk of Clay Co. court.". 1

"Ann T. Mallory personally appeared before E. Thurston, J. of P. Bourbon County, Ken. and Ackn. the above power of Atty. 28 Jan., 1836. Attest, James T. Morehead Lieutenant and Acting Governor of the Commonwealth of Kentucky.". 1

She appears on the 1840 census as Ann T. Mallory in the Northern District of Bourbon County. Her household included only a female 60-70 (herself), and a female 10-15 (perhaps her daughter Rebecca). 1 appears on the 1850 census as Ann Mallery (77). Her household consisted of herself, Charles P. Talbot (33) and Aria Talbot (69). She and Aria Talbot were born in Virginia. Charles Talbot was born in Kentucky. She did not declare a value of real estate. Charles Talbot owned real estate valued at ,000. Aria Talbot owned real estate valued at ,300. She appears as a slave owner in 1850 under the name Ann T. Mallory on a separate slave schedule. 1 probably died shortly after the 1850 census.
