Genealogical Note

In the middle of the eighteenth century there were two Jeremiah Piggotts at Cane Creek Meeting. They were first cousins. It is understandable that this has created difficulties in tracing family lines.

Cane Creek Monthly Meeting was two years old when Jeremiah Piggott, the son of William and Sarah Pike Piggott, was born February 18, 1753. [2] He married Charity Moon, the daughter of James and Ann Moon, on October 13, 1774. They had eight children: Rachel, Joseph, Margery, Sarah, John, Jeremiah, Thomas and William.

Jeremiah and Charity moved their membership to New Garden Meeting in 1783. However, they returned to Cane Creek in 1791 . After a few years, there was some difficulty with the Meeting and Charity was disowned in 1800.

The other Jeremiah Piggott, who is profiled here, and Rachel Maynor were married in May of 1765 in the Rocky River Monthly Meeting. They would be buried there in later years. Their fifth child, Abigail Piggott, was born February 9, 1771 .

It was Abigail Piggot Moon's maternal grandparents, Henry Maynor (aka Mayner) and his wife, Susannah Maynor, who were originally from Prince George County, Maryland, where he was a planter and an overseer in Fairfax Meeting of northern Virginia. In 1750 they and their children joined other Quaker families moving to North Carolina. They received certificates to Carvers Creek Meeting in Bladen County. The next year they became part of the new Cane Creek Meeting.

Abigail (Piggott) Moon and her husband Kasper Moon with their large and growing family traveled for six weeks by covered wagon to the Whitewater Valley in Indiana in September of 1808. They became a part of a new Meeting which was set up on the Whitewater in 1809.

The Piggott name has evolved into Pickett in most cases, through the years. Unfortunately, no descendant of either name remains a part of the Cane Creek Meeting today.[3]

Piggott-162 and Piggott-77 appear to represent the same person because: John & Margery Piggott had 2 sons named Jeremiah because the 1st one died when Margery was pregnant with the baby that they named for his "lost" brother (such was commonplace at the time). They had NO baby Jeremiah born in 1725 and NO sources have been given for his birth except an unsourced Gedcom that is unavailable here. Either the 1725 birth date is an error OR these are the wrong Piggott parents. Please either Merge these profiles OR remove these wrong parents. Thank you.
