Biography

Alfred Pink was born in Hampshire, England.

Alfred Pink, the son of George Pink, a Farm Labourer, and Arabella (West) Pink, was born on 21 October 1885 in Colemore, Hampshire, England and registered by his mother on 8 December 1885 at Petersfield.^[1][2] Alfred was baptised on 3 January 1886 in Colmore.^[3]

In the 1891 census Alfred (age 5) was living at Mannor Cottage, Colemore with his parents George, a domestic Groom and Gardener, and Arabella and siblings Herbert (15), a Farm Servant, Edith (13), William George (11), Alice, (9), Anne Maud (3), Eveline May (1) and Henry Phillip (3 months). 3/12.^[4]

In 1901 Alfred (age 15) was a helper in stables (Groom) and living at Knap, Priors Dean, Hampshire. The family also comprised his parents George (52), a Groom and Gardener and Arabella (47) and seven siblings.^[5]

In the 1911 census Alfred (age 25), a Domestic Groom, was recorded as single in Old Alresford, Hampshire, England.^[6]

When aged 28, Alfred, a Chauffer, enlisted in the Royal Engineers of the UK, British Army for service in World War I with Regimental Number 48707 at Winchester, Hampshire on 8 September 1914. During his medical examination for enlistment Alfred was described as 5ft 9ins in height, weighing 135 pounds, with a sallow complexion, brown eyes and dark brown hair. His religious denomination was Church of England.^[2]

When he was 32, Alfred, a Driver, married Evelyn Gray (22) on 29 August 1918 at St Bartholomew, Haslemere, Surrey, England.^[7][2]

In the 1939 register Alfred (age 53), Painter was living at 17 Fieldway, Haslemere, Surrey with his wife Evelyn and daughter Phyllis, who was at school.^[8]

Alfred's death at the age of 74 was registered in the Jan-Feb-Mar quarter of 1960 in the Surrey S.W. district.^[9]
