Will was written November 29, 1780: "In the Name of God, Amen, I, John Pitts, Senr. of Chatham County and State of North Carolina, being very sick in body but of perfect mind and memory thanks be to God calling unto mind the mortality of body and knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die Doe make and ordain this my last will and testament, that is to say principally and first of all I give and recommend my soul into the hands of almity(?) Signed by the testor as his last will and testament in our presence and at his request have witteness the same. James Chrithan John Pitts Benjamin Willson his X mark Mary Willson her X mark The foregoing will only named two boys and three girls, however, family notes and legend tells us that two other sons, Burwell and Barbee were killed as young men in the Revolutionary War. If their deaths occurred before they were married, there would have been no reason for John Sr. to have included them in his will November 29, 1780.

  • Mary married James Lynn, Jr. Her sister Elizabeth married (1) Valentine Brasswell (2) William Lynn, brother of James Lynn, Jr. (My highlights)
