Biography

Note: No documentation of a middle name has been found, so far. A source for "Samuel" is needed.

James Poling was born 31 August 1808 in Randolph County, Virginia. The date is computed from his Death Record. He was the son of Martin D. Poling and Mary Poling.

James Poling married Elizabeth Venoy October 1829 in Randolph County, Virginia. From the 1850 Census, they had the following children.

  4. Ann-11-Va,
  5. Elam-9-Va
  6. Rebecca-8-Va,

On 14 September 1865, Jonas Poling and wife Elizabeth, David Poling Jr and wife Mary, Johnathan Poling and wife Jane, Jacob Sturm and wife Lettice A, Nicholas Gainer and wife Phebe, Nathaniel Poling and Alzina his wife, Isaac Poling and wife Elfanzine, Emery Poling and wife Catherine, Elam T Poling, Perry Poling, Wm G Poling, Taswell Poling, Rebecca Johnson, Wesley Beam and wife Virginia and Marshall Stalnaker and wife Anna sold to Levi Gainer 98 acres on Brushy Fork of Teters Creek.

Note: Jonas, David, Jonathon, Lettice and Phebe are all children of Martin D. The remaining are children of Martin D's deceased son James. Levi Gainer's wife is Catherine, daughter of Martin D.

On 28 May 1873, the following sold 100 acres of land on Laurel Creek to Henson Poling.
