John Thomas Pope, 87, a resident of Missouri for more thanthree-quarters of a century, died at 3:25 p.m. Friday at his home, 1102 S.
Chestnut St., Eldon. He had been in failing health for two years.
Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Assembly ofGod Church in Eldon.
Mr. Pope was born near Yellville, Ark., May 19, 1873, the son of thelate Richard Martin and Sarah (Allen) Pope. He came from Arkansas toMissouri with his father in a covered wagon at the age of 10 years.
On May 19, 1896, he was married to Sisley Ahart who preceded him indeath in 1943. He was also preceded in death by twin sons who died in1918 at the ages of 11 months and 13 months.
Surviving are four sons, Johnnie Pope of Kansas City, Mo., Wesleyand Loyd Pope of Kansas City, Kan., and Jimmy Pope of Valley Park; twodaughters, Edna Tyler of Climax Springs and Oda Pankey of Kansas City,Kans.; 30 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; four half-sisters, andfour
half-brothers. One sister and three brothers preceded him in death.
The Rev. Ed Boan officiated at the services Sunday. Burial was atDooley Cemetery under the direction of Kays Funeral Home of Eldon.
Pallbearers were Granville Purl, Oscar Watt, M.D. Denison, TomFoust, Mike Simons and Dan Brown.
