Notes
Note N1880"Also included in the migration to Ohio were Samuel and Eleanor (Willett) Pottenger, the parents of Samuel and Thomas. He was then 83 years old and his wife was 75." (From "Pottenger Pioneers in Ohio" by Frank H. Stieg, Jr., publ 6 Aug 1979.)
"Samuel was the eldest son and while he had a great deal of property left him, he soon got through with it owing to his habits of dissipation. He and his children left Maryland after the close of the Revolution and lived for some time in western Pennsylvania." (From "A Short Account " by R. W. Quinn.)
Samuel was originally buried in a cemetery in West Elkton, Ohio. Sources do not indicate a specific one, and there are several in the area. He was "removed to Greenwood Cemetery" on Oct 25, 1870, along with Eleanor Pottenger, Thomas and Wilson Pottenger, per Greenwood records.
"Living to be 102 years of age he and his family had settled many places before finally settling in Butler County, Ohio in 1801-03, with his many children, nieces and nephews and their families. The home place was 200 acres north of the village of Seven Mile in Wayne Township." (From "Pottenger Pioneers in Ohio", July 5, 1985, Newsletter, by Frank H. Stieg, Jr.)
