Maria Jane was born in Sam Pottinger's old log house on Lot No.1 in New Haven, KY. She married Joseph Brown (1819-1862), a mercantile business man, on February 19, 1852 in Nelson Co. KY. They moved to a nice frame house on Main Street in New Haven. They had five children and Maria died 13 days after her last daughter was born. Her husband Joseph died a year and half later. The five children went to live with their uncle and aunt, Carroll C. and Emeline (Pottinger) Blincoe. Their five children;
