d/o Samuel Potttinger Jr and Lucinda Jameson. Age 30.

Maria Jane was born in Sam Pottinger's old log house on Lot No.1 in New Haven, KY. She married Joseph Brown (1819-1862), a mercantile business man, on February 19, 1852 in Nelson Co. KY. They moved to a nice frame house on Main Street in New Haven. They had five children and Maria died 13 days after her last daughter was born. Her husband Joseph died a year and half later. The five children went to live with their uncle and aunt, Carroll C. and Emeline (Pottinger) Blincoe. Their five children;

• Mary Alice "Mollie" Brown 12-24-1852 to 6-1940 m. James V. Pottinger, (cousin), 4 children: Horace (Henry) born c.1879, Nannie B. born c.1886, Virgil (infant 1889-1891), and Laura B. born c.1896

• Nannie Belle Brown 6-29-1854 to 12-13-1885 unmarried

• Curtis Hughes Brown 9-28-1856 to 1920 unmarried

• Joseph Douglas Brown Jr. 8-7-1858 to 12-17-1884 unmarried
