Research Notes

Notes on Merge: One profile has the name "Decatur" with Cader as a nick name. As all primary sources cited so far seem to show Cader so selecting "Cader" rather than Decatur for the merged profile. One of the profiles merged was connected to Cader Nathaniel Powell and Elizabeth Schoolefield as parents. Since there are no sources on Cader and Elizabeth at all and so far no evidence that they might have been this Cader's parents has been found he is instead connected with uncertain indicators to Jacob and Ann Powell. Jacobe Powell did have a son named "Kader" mentioned in his will[14]. It is not certain that that Cader was the same Cader who lived in Gates NC and married Francis Foote. Further sources or info on parentage are welcome to be added.

On profile listed Birth place as Holland, Nansemond Co., Virginia, since Cader's father Jacob lived in Chowan NC, then Gates NC, changing to Chowan NC until further evidence.

Other Cader Powells of about the same age who are not duplicates:

George Powell Sr., who died in Bertie County and Ann Conner Powell are listed as having sons Cader Powell Sr. (Powell-7807), George Powell Jr. (Powell-13733), Lewis Powell (Powell-14353), and Moses Conner Powell Sr. (Powell-6197). Was one of these this profile's father?

In this family's next generation: Cader Sr.'s son Cader married Mary Jenkins.

George only has one son currently listed in wikitree, but a grandson is named George Cader Powell. Might he have also had a son Cader?

Lewis has no children listed in wikitree. Did he have any children?

Moses Sr.'s son Cader is listed as having married Patience (Watson?).

Cader Powell JR. and Cader Powell that married Frances Foote are cousins being born abt. 1750. Cader Powell Sr. the father of Cader Jr. and Caders father Moses Sr. are brothers. Cader Jr. married Mary Jenkins and Stayed in NC. Cader and Frances left Georgia and moved to Floyd Kentucky.

Cader and his son George Powell sr. our my grandfathers . Land grants in Georgia and certificates of servicer show that Moses Sr., Cader and his two brothers Lewis and Moses Jr. served during the Revolutionary war in Georgia. Moses and Cader had previously been recognized by the SAR/ DAR registeries.

Kedor Powell born also 1750 in NC -1786 has no connection to the two mentioned above . His father is Isaac Powell170-1781

It looks like Gil is positing that Frances Foote's father-in-law was a Moses Powell.

If those mentioned are profiled on wikitree, it would be great to clarify who's who with wikitree ID's. Thanks!

There is a George Powell (abt.1793-) who is linked as a son. Are you descended from that George?
posted by Edward Trever
I am descended from that George. He had a son my great-grandfather George W. Powell. His son George W. Powell Junior my grandfather kept Pictures of him in his bedroom. The fact, I do know 100 percent without question. They came from Pikeville Ky. My grandfather was a coal miner The only Cader from Pike County Is the Cader 1750-1828. What is missing here is a book I received directly from the Pikeville library genealogist. That was written many years ago. about the Powell and Williams families. How did Cader get to Pike Co? By land grant. I am directly descended from the Powells from Pike County. Evidence provided by my grandfather, where he came from and his father being from Pike County. Census / Birth certificates and Marriage certificates, Ky land grants, wills ect. All agree that Cader was in Pike Co. Died in Pike Co. in or about 1828 and My 2x gg father George and My uncle Theopolius were brothers and had a father Cader. This Cader Descended from Moses and Mary Williams. The other Cader's I have pedigrees on were my uncles. They can be traced to Georgia and North Carolina.

Powell-11985 and Powell-6196 appear to represent the same person because: Clear duplicate, same parents, same wife, same birth death dates and places. These two need to be merged.

Do you have a list of Cader's siblings and a source?

As Kentucky had not been around in 1750, there is a problem with the birth information.

Cader born in 1710 was Cader from Kentucky's Uncle. Kedar has no connection to Cader sr. Cader/ Frances Foote. Kedar is the son of Issac . Issac powell 1720-1781 his father was John Powell .

Cadar that married Frances are my 3rd great gran parents This Caders' father is Moses sr who had a brother Cader sr. who also had a son Cader jr. about the same age.

Hello, please see below. John Ashe says that Frances Foote would not be Cader Powell's wife. Do you have any sources for this marriage? Thanks, Teresa

Hi, Frances Foote and Cader were married in NC. They are my 3rd Great grand parents. They are mentioned in the will of Frances's father Henry Foote , who was a veteran of the revolutionary war. Also, some indication that Cader his father and brothers were also Patriots. Being that they are listed in the Georgia's roster of the revolution receiving land grants and certificates of service in Georgia.

Question is whether Decatur (Cader)'s father is Jacob Powell or Moses Connor Powell?

I have seen it go either way.

posted on Powell-14422 (merged) by Brenda (Sherritt) Mitchiner
Powell-6196 and Powell-11985 are not ready to be merged because: Cader was not born in Kentucky. Probably born in NC.

Cader died in 1828 or prior to 1828, not 1835 Cader's father Jacob is not proven, but seems logical.

Powell-6196 and Powell-11985 appear to represent the same person because: This is the Cader (father appears to be Jacob Powell) who married Frances Foote, a marriage recorded in Warren, NC 3 June, 1782. Also this Cader later went to Kentucky, I understand. They seem to match very well because of marriage data and approximate age.

The Cader that married Frances Foote were both my 3 great grand parents. His father is Moses sr. My 4th Great grand fatther. Cader has an uncle ( Moses sr brother ) that goes by the name Cader Powell sr. and had a son Cader jr. from NC. born around same time making he and Cader from Ky cousins.

Powell-11985 and Powell-6196 do not represent the same person because: The Cader Powell who married Frances Foote and died in Kentucky is not the Cader Powell son of Moses Powell who died in Georgia. They have been confused with each other many times. I have run into five or six different Cader Powells The Cader Powell who married Frances Foote was the probable son of Jacob Powell who was born ca 1718.

Cader and Moses are my 3rd and 4th great grand fathers. They along with Frances Foots father Henry Foote ( my 4th great-grandfather) served as Patriots during the Revolutionary war. Mostly, the confusion comes into play the fact that Caders' Uncle Cader Powell sr had a son Cader Powell jr 1745 and Cader 1750. making them cousins cousins . Cader jr. died in NC and My Grandfather Cader died in Ky. Starting my Powell Family line in KY.

Powell-11985 and Powell-6196 appear to represent the same person because: identical birth and wife, no primary sources for the father shown on either profile
