"SIR MICHAEL DE POYNINGS, (presumably son and) heir, was summoned in 1294 to attend the King on urgent matters. In October 1295 and June 1297 he was preparing for service in Scotland, under Earl de Warenne. In 1296 he was enrolled for defence of the coast, as a non-resident knight of Sussex; in 1297, having lands and rents valued at £20 and more a year in Sussex and Surrey, he had a double summons, both direct and by the sheriff, for service overseas. In October 1299 he was going abroad with Henry de Percy. He and his wife were summoned to the Coronation of Edward II. M.P. for Sussex, March 1312/3. He married some time before 8 June 1298, Margery (----). He is probably to be identified with the Miles [sic] de Ponynges killed at Bannockburn, 24 June 1314 (i). His widow was living in February 1333/4. "[Complete Peerage X:659, (transcribed by Dave Utzinger)]
His mother was Hawise, widow of Reynold de Vautort, not Isabel d'Aguillon. The d'Aguillon connection is through Luke's mother.[1]
He married Margery Bardolf, daughter of Sir Hugh Bardolf, 1st Lord Bardolph and Isabel d' Aguillon, before 8 June 1298.
They had 2 sons (Sir Thomas; & Michael) & 3 daughters (Joan, wife of Sir Thomas de Tregoz, 2nd Lord Tregoz; Hawise, wife of John de Reydon, & of Sir John de Wysham; & Margery, wife of Sir Edmund Bacon, of Sir Nicholas de la Beche, & of Sir John de Dalton).[2]
Sir Michael de Poynings died on 24 June 1314 at Battle of Bannockburn, Stirling, Stirlingshire, Scotland.[3]
