Thomas Preston was born on 10 May 1845^[1] in Sackville Reach, New South Wales, Australia as the seventh child of Joseph Preston and Hannah. He had eleven siblings, namely: Joseph, Anne Nancy, Margaret, Eleanor (Ellen), Hannah, Mary, John, George, William, Frances Elizabeth, and James. He died on 15 Dec 1933^[2] in Wyong, New South Wales, Australia. When he was 23, he married Jane Walker, daughter of John Joseph Walker and Jane Eliza, on 09 Feb 1869^[3] in MacDonald River, New South Wales, Australia.

Thomas Preston was buried^[4] in Jilliby, New South Wales, Australia (Jilliby General Cemetery).
