Research by Sonia Meyer years ago along with YDna testing has simply raised more questions. From what I recall, it couldn’t be determined if Thomas was Phillips son or possibly a brother.
Here’s something we do know; Mary Doss does not appear in the Bedford, Virginia tax lists in 1782 or 1784. She is listed at the top of the page on the 1785 tax list as Mary Doss. There are some male Doss’ on the earlier lists. Perhaps her second husband? Or Father?
There is so much that remains unproven about the Bedford Prestons. Where they ‘originated’ from depends on the time period one is considering. Phillip may not be the immigrant, perhaps his father was and he hasn’t been identified. YDna tells us they ‘might’ have come here from Wales. We do know that earlier origins trace back to Scotland.
The YDna project needs many more Y testers.
